Burgess' Maternity Care Bill Headed to POTUS' Desk

Statement

Date: Dec. 7, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR) and Subcommittee on Health Chairman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX) today released the following statements after the Senate passed H.R. 315, the Improving Access to Maternity Care Act, authored by #SubHealth Chairman Michael Burgess.

"This important legislation, now headed to the president's desk to be signed into law, will help to better identify areas in the nation with shortages in maternity care -- ensuring pregnancies are without unnecessary risk and barriers to care regardless of a woman's zip code," said Chairman Walden. "This legislation's passage was only possible thanks to the steadfast leadership of Health Subcommittee Chairman Burgess, who has dedicated his career before Congress, and now his time serving the people of Texas' 26th congressional district, to improving care for expectant mothers."

"As an OB/GYN who spent nearly three decades providing care to mothers and babies in North Texas, I am delighted that my bill to expand access to maternity care is headed to President Trump's desk to become the law of the land," said #SubHealth Chairman Michael Burgess. "With yesterday's Senate passage, we have come one step closer to delivering the quality, consistent maternity care that helps to ensure a safe and healthy pregnancy regardless of where a woman lives. I look forward to seeing President Trump sign this lifesaving bill into law as soon as possible."
